First of all, I don’t have such controller nor did I mod my N1s (yet). I’m just the messenger, so don’t shoot me ๐
Also I have no idea if something got changed with the electronics of the 2018 models – but I doubt it. To me, those are more facelifts with different programming.
The “X” type mentioned in the PDF files inside the archive are something I never read about before. Not sure if that’s really needed. All the Chinese how-tos I saw did never mention such as a must-have.AxelKeymasterNot out-of-the-box. That said, you can connect to the controller through Bluetooth (using a rs232-to-bt adapter).
So theoretically it should be possible to change profiles on the fly… I’ve added a link for downloading an archive with docs, the software and an Android APK for Bluetooth control. Use at your own risk ๐AxelKeymasterYeah, first and foremost, this “mod” is totally reversible. Just remove the 2nd controller and Y-cable, reconnect the original one to the motor and everything’s as before. But as always: If you killed your motor/battery using this tunig method, reversing won’t help… I have to say that, right? ๐
It’s actually difficult to say what model you should choose. For just 60km/h the 72152 should be sufficient.
But to my understanding you can completely program the Ling Bo controller… and because the price difference is just $30, I’d go for the 72182 like offered in
this kit. You could then limit the ‘oooomp’ through software then.
OTOH it’s not very well documented (yet)… working on it.AxelKeymasterHey Mattijn, good point!
I was working on a post about that for weeks… so I kicked my butt and finished it somehow. Read more about this way of tuning in my most recent post over here ๐

AxelKeymaster
Hi Axel, I comment you 2 issues that I have encountered.
On the โintroduce yourselfโ thread I tried to link the picture of my bike, didnโt seem to work.
Did you try the BBcodes for images? I think all of the BBcodes listed there are supported… Still figuring out how to post them without being interpreted ๐
Also I created a thread on the Dealer forum, but because I didnโt created inside any subforum is nowhere to be seen.
It went into the SPAM filter… but I added an “other” dealer sub-forum and moved your (unblocked) post there ๐
AxelKeymaster
As I say on the title, it is possibly a scam, not that it is. But certainly it looks shady at best.
Hey Jorge, thanks for that head-up… and yes, it is totally, definitely and 100% scam… I’ve read about some German customers who jumped the gun and couldn’t wait for the official sale start and ordered there. Well, there are better ways to waste money ๐
AxelKeymasterThere’s no (known) way to disable the GPS the “soft” way…
That said, as most sub-systems in the NIU are connected through an RS485 bus I’m pretty sure there are two cables you could cut to disable GPS (it’s somewhere in the front underneath the headlight).
Because I don’t want to void my guarantee I did not (yet) dig into these innards of my scooter.AxelKeymasterError 161 seems to be a new one introduced with the 2018 models and to my knowledge surfaced only one time.
Officially it means “The scooter is locked via remote control” and the solution is “please contact your dealer for professional help”. Sigh…
The good thing is, the one guy who had this error schlepped his NIU to the dealer to demonstrate the Error and -bam- it vanished ๐
Did you try switch it off-and-on again? (with a pause, maybe)AxelKeymasterIt’s official… it’s a bug with the 2018 models.
One user of the german electric scooter forum got am PM via Instagram, saying they’re working on it.
I saw your comment, too, Jorge ๐
Strange that Instagram seems to be the only way to get in touch with NIU… they really need to polish their int’l support.AxelKeymaster
I think itโs pretty ridiculous, with 20% at 18kmh I can make almost 20 km. 5-10% wouls be much better IMO. Also you make traffic hella slow.
Well, while that’s really annoying to be a ‘wandering dune’ in traffic, this feature is meant to go easy on your battery. Li-ion batteries don’t like to be fully depleted – so that crawl-mode should remind you to recharge the hard way ๐
BTW, the most recent firmwares lifted the limit a tiny bit to 15%. Check the FAQ entry and the topic in the software sub-forum.AxelKeymasterHi Andreas,
Like I wrote in your original comment in the post, it would be very helpful to know which NIU model you’re talking about (N1s is what I would guess) and where you have the severe rust problem?AxelKeymaster
I donโt know if its agains the rules, but I thought it would be cool if the NIU users could see where are we from and which scooters are we riding and which modifications or accesories they have.
Why should it be against the rules?! That’s a good idea and one reason why this forum exists: Get in touch with other NIU riders – maybe in your neighbourhood, city or at least country.
I’m sure there will be local forums soon, but until then, we’ll bridge the time until then in this little place.AxelKeymasterSalut et bienvenue Christophe,
That’s a very good idea to give a quick intro of yourself! It makes this a much cosier place to be ๐
Cheers, Axel
